Low Vision Assessments at Clive Williams Opticians
Low vision is a fairly general term, and there are a range of causes. In short, you are said to have low vision if you experience diminished sight even with the aid of corrective lenses.
If this is the case, we can arrange a special consultation, to discuss the options available for maximizing your available sight, as well as the range of services we provide for low vision patients.
Because the needs of patients with low vision are more specialized, your initial assessment will take around an hour. This will allow you and your optometrist to have a discussion about the aspects of your life most affected by your low vision, and how the various visual aids we provide can help you.
We can offer you the loan, on behalf of the NHS, of a range of low vision aids: for example, magnifiers, typoscopes, electronic magnifiers, and reading stands. We can show you how to use these in your daily life.
After your low vision assessment, we will have a more complete idea of your specific needs. We will then be able to put you in contact with any bodies which may be able to help you: this might be social services, or an appropriate voluntary organization. We can also make a referral to your GP, if necessary.
You are entitled to one free low vision assessment per year, under Welsh Government regulations. Therefore, we recommend a yearly check-up; we will then be able to tailor your service to meet your requirements in the event that they alter with time.
